Ours is a young, growing practice that seeks to produce PROVOKING, THOUGHTFUL DESIGN. This mission, although representative of our beliefs, is not fixed. Rather, it is a position that is under constant
scrutiny. Through our practice and work, we are always looking to evolve and refine who we are.
Thus, our identity, like that of design, remains quite fluid.
As we have worked to clarify what this calling entails, we have created a set of guiding principles. Although everchanging, these values have proven to be useful to us as we discuss, debate, and clarify our position. By offering
it here, we are inviting you to enter into this dialogue, whether as a colleague or a client.
WE BELIEVE THAT SUSTAINABLE DESIGN IS NOT THE SAME AS GREEN DESIGN. To create sustainable design one must address social, economic, and cultural forces as well as those offered by the natural environment. To have a sustainable practice, one must create an environment that encourages a constant evolution of process and product.
WE BELIEVE THAT ARCHITECTURE MUST GROW FROM THE FORCES THAT NATURALLY INFORM EACH PROJECT, NOT IN SPITE OF THEM. In our minds, the act of design is less a matter of answering the demands of program, site, and economy than it is of creating a symbiotic relationship with said influences.
WE BELIEVE THAT THE PRACTICE OF ARCHITECTURE IS AN EXTROVERTED ART. Our work is thus designed to create a dialogue with people from all walks of life. To the novice, our projects offer a capable and generous response to the given site, budget and program; to the expert, our projects endeavor to provoke a compelling glimpse into more theoretical concerns. The approach which grows from these beliefs is both PRACTICALLY ROOTED and THEORETICALLY RIGOROUS.
